St. Bartholomew’s Anglican Church 1908
In 1908 a group of Anglican cottagers established a summer church at Hazel and Grove street. Saint Bartholomew’s was dedicated in 1909 and remained in it’s original location until 1947 when the church was moved to it’s present site at 291 Churchill road. The CPR gave us the Churchill Road property and made the stipulation that it must always be used for church purposes. So saint Bartholomew bas moved and at the same time in 1947 winterized. It was rededicated by Archbishop Lewis Sherman.
One of the oldest surviving buildings in the community, Saint Bartholomew recalls the earliest years of activity here. Recently recovered on its exterior, the church still exhibits its original informal and inviting character, with its broad main facade and offset tower. Inside, the church still features its original altar, some stained glass, wooden pews and a bell.
Saint Bartholomew is a thriving congregation to this day.
