Welcome to our Story
In 2021, the Winnipeg beach Historical Society was formed by Wendy Peter after attempting to find a historic photo of her 1910 Winnipeg Beach cottage to no avail. The society existed initially as a facebook group where people began to share stories and photos and was a great place of connection during the global pandemic from 2020-2023.
In 2024, as things opened up again this website was launched, a historic walking tour was developed and plans to rehab the historic caboose in Winnipeg Beach and raise funds towards a future museum began to emerge.
The historical society and this website would not have anything to offer if it was not for the past efforts of several key people who invested large amounts of time into preserving Winnipeg Beaches History. Those people are: Wally Johannson who researched the history of the town for the centennial event in 2014, and who’s work and efforts are shared on this site. Heather Ritchie who also poured her heart into the Centennial event and the first rehabilitation of the Caboose. Russ Amy who built a hige diorama of the town also made a huge contribution to recording the towns physical layout.
Donna Ferguson has assisted Wendy Peter in many ways and co-leads the Historical Society at this time.
Also worthy of honour and mention are Dora Carpenter and Dossie Harrison who formed the Boundary Creek District Development Committee in 1990 and spent hundreds of hours recording the oral history of Winnipeg Beach from those who remembered it.
And finally, we thank everyone who ever took the time to send us a photo, map or memory that has been woven into our history for future generations to learn and enjoy.
So we invite you too to join us as we write new chapters, preserving the past and embracing the future. Let your voice be heard in this chorus of stories, for it's the diversity of our narratives that paints the vibrant mosaic of our town. The Winnipeg Beach Historical Society - where every word, every memory, every smile, is etched into the annals of our shared heritage.
